Born and raised in the south of the Netherlands, I went to the University of Leiden (the Netherlands) at age 18 and studied both Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. After graduating I worked at the Dutch blood bank for 1.5 years as a doctor before I started my PhD in the genetics of breast cancer. I hope to defend my PhD thesis (which will be on some genetic variants and their association with a mildly increased breast cancer risk) before the end of 2012.
